What is somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy is a therapeutic approach that recognizes the intricate connection between your mind and body. Somatic therapy is not about analyzing or interpreting your experiences intellectually; instead, it encourages you to be present with your bodily sensations and explore them in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. The belief is that our bodies store emotions and memories, and by paying attention to bodily sensations and movements, we can develop a deeper understanding of ourselves.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine that focuses on resolving and healing trauma by paying attention to bodily sensations and the physiological responses associated with traumatic experiences.
I’m trained as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner
Somatic Therapy for Trauma Recovery
Facing trauma can be challenging, and I want you to know that my approach as a somatic therapist is centered around your safety and empowerment. Instead of solely focusing on talking about the trauma, we'll gently explore how it resides in your body. Trauma often leaves an imprint on both the mind and body, and we'll work together to notice and understand these sensations.
During somatic therapy sessions, you may be guided to tune into physical sensations, explore your breath, and notice patterns of movement or tension. This process allows you to become more aware of the ways in which your body responds to emotions and stress. By developing this awareness, you can work towards releasing stored tension, trauma, or emotions that may be impacting your mental health.
The beauty of somatic therapy is that it allows us to address trauma in a way that respects your pace and comfort. We won't rush, and you're always in control. This isn't about reliving painful experiences; it's about reclaiming your body as a resource for healing. Together, we'll navigate this journey, honoring your unique path towards recovery and resilience.

Like all therapy, SE™ is tailored to each individual, and the pace and depth of exploration are determined by your readiness and comfort. Once we’ve created a safe space for you to explore your feelings and bodily sensations, we’ll gently dive into specific sensations or memories related to the traumatic event, taking it step by step at your own pace. You may be encouraged to notice how your body reacts, attending to sensations like tension or warmth, without judgment. The process involves breaking down traumatic experiences into smaller parts, allowing you to integrate them without feeling overwhelmed.
